Common use

Trintellix is prescribed for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults. It works by modulating serotonin receptors and inhibiting serotonin reuptake, helping improve mood, energy levels, and overall emotional balance.

Dosage and direction

Trintellix is taken once daily, with or without food. The dosage is determined by your healthcare provider, usually starting at a low dose and gradually increasing if needed. Swallow tablets whole and take at the same time each day for consistent results.

Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have a history of bipolar disorder, seizures, glaucoma, bleeding problems, or liver disease. Trintellix may cause dizziness or drowsiness, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. Avoid alcohol during treatment.

Contraindications

Do not use Trintellix if you are allergic to vortioxetine or any component of the medication. It is contraindicated in patients taking MAO inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of stopping them.

Possible side effect

Common side effects include nausea, constipation, dizziness, dry mouth, and decreased appetite. Serious side effects may include serotonin syndrome, suicidal thoughts (especially at treatment start), unusual bleeding, or severe allergic reactions. Seek medical care if severe symptoms occur.

Drug interaction

Trintellix may interact with MAOIs, SSRIs, SNRIs, triptans, tramadol, lithium, linezolid, anticoagulants, and NSAIDs. These interactions can increase the risk of serotonin syndrome or bleeding. Inform your doctor of all medications and supplements you take.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take two doses at once.

Overdose

Overdose symptoms may include severe dizziness, vomiting, agitation, confusion, or signs of serotonin syndrome. Seek immediate medical attention if an overdose is suspected.

Storage

Store Trintellix at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and light. Keep tablets in their original packaging and out of reach of children and pets.
