Common use

Ofev (nintedanib) is prescribed for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and certain other progressive fibrosing interstitial lung diseases. It works by blocking multiple pathways involved in fibrosis, helping to reduce lung tissue scarring and slow the decline in lung function.

Dosage and direction

Ofev is taken orally, usually twice daily with food. Capsules should be swallowed whole and not crushed or chewed. Dosage adjustments may be required for patients with liver problems or significant side effects. Follow your healthcare provider’s instructions closely.

Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have liver disease, bleeding disorders, cardiovascular disease, or gastrointestinal problems. Monitor for liver function, bleeding, and gastrointestinal symptoms. Avoid activities with a high risk of bleeding while on this medication.

Contraindications

Do not use Ofev if allergic to nintedanib or any component of the capsules. It is contraindicated in patients with active bleeding, severe liver impairment, or known hypersensitivity to the drug.

Possible side effect

Common side effects include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and liver enzyme elevation. Serious side effects may include severe liver injury, bleeding, cardiovascular events, or gastrointestinal perforation. Seek medical attention immediately if severe symptoms occur.

Drug interaction

Ofev may interact with anticoagulants, P-glycoprotein or CYP3A4 inducers/inhibitors, and certain other medications. Inform your doctor of all prescription drugs, over-the-counter products, and supplements you are taking.

Missed dose

If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take two doses at once.

Overdose

Symptoms of overdose may include severe gastrointestinal effects, liver problems, or bleeding. Seek immediate medical attention if overdose is suspected.

Storage

Store Ofev at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep capsules in their original container and out of reach of children.
