Common use

Nexletol (bempedoic acid) is prescribed to help reduce “bad” LDL cholesterol in patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease or heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. It works by inhibiting ATP citrate lyase, an enzyme involved in cholesterol synthesis in the liver, thereby lowering LDL levels and supporting heart health.

Dosage and direction

Nexletol is taken orally, usually once daily, with or without food. Swallow tablets whole with water. Dosage may be adjusted based on kidney function, other medications, and response to therapy. Continue regular cholesterol monitoring while on the medication.

Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have liver disease, kidney problems, gout, or a history of tendon disorders. Report any unexplained muscle pain, weakness, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. Maintain a healthy diet and follow recommended exercise and lifestyle measures for cardiovascular health.

Contraindications

Do not use Nexletol if allergic to bempedoic acid or any tablet components. It should be used cautiously in patients with severe liver disease or elevated liver enzymes.

Possible side effect

Common side effects include muscle aches, back pain, abdominal pain, constipation, or elevated uric acid. Serious side effects may include tendon rupture, liver problems, gout attacks, or severe allergic reactions. Seek immediate medical attention if serious symptoms occur.

Drug interaction

Nexletol may interact with statins, cholesterol-lowering supplements, or medications affecting liver enzymes. Inform your doctor about all prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and supplements you are taking.

Missed dose

If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one. Do not take two doses at once.

Overdose

Overdose may cause nausea, vomiting, muscle pain, or liver abnormalities. Seek immediate medical attention if an overdose is suspected.

Storage

Store Nexletol at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and light. Keep tablets in their original container and out of reach of children.
