Common Use
This combination is commonly used as otic (ear) drops to treat outer ear infections (otitis externa) and middle ear infections (otitis media) with ear tubes. Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that kills bacteria by inhibiting DNA synthesis. Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation, swelling, and itching in the ear.

Dosage and Direction
The usual dosage is 4 drops into the affected ear(s) twice daily for 7 days, or as prescribed by a doctor. Before applying, warm the bottle in your hands and shake well. The patient should lie on their side, and the drops should be kept in the ear for several minutes. Do not insert anything into the ear canal after application.

Precautions
Use only in the ear—not for the eyes or ingestion. Inform your doctor if you have a ruptured eardrum, fungal ear infection, or allergy to quinolones or steroids. Avoid contact with contaminated surfaces to prevent reinfection.

Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin, dexamethasone, or other quinolone or corticosteroid medications. Not for use if the eardrum is perforated, unless directed by a healthcare professional.

Possible Side Effects
Common side effects may include ear discomfort, itching, and mild irritation. Rarely, allergic reactions such as rash, swelling, dizziness, or hearing changes may occur. If severe side effects appear, discontinue use and seek medical help.

Drug Interaction
Since this is a topical (otic) medication, systemic interactions are minimal. However, inform your doctor if you are using other ear medications or have received long-term steroid therapy.

Missed Dose
If a dose is missed, apply it as soon as you remember. If it's close to the next dose, skip the missed one. Do not double the dose.

Overdose
An overdose is unlikely with ear drops but excessive use can cause local irritation or steroid-related side effects with prolonged use. Seek medical advice if large amounts are accidentally ingested.

Storage
Store the bottle at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Do not freeze. Keep the cap tightly closed and out of reach of children.
